Week 10 Dev Log: July 17th - July 23th
What we have done so far:
This week we solidified some of the mechanics for beta. We implemented the hint system, which is a text box that shows up when players toggle a button. We also did some playtesting before beta and found out a couple of issues with the collisions, sheep AI, repeating music, and so forth. There are new assets for the grass and pond/water textures, and an end screen that triggers when all the main objectives are completed. We also decided to focus less on the optional easter egg interactions and more on bug-fixing.
What our next steps are:
- source and implement voice acting
- stop tumbleweeds from blowing off the map by themselves
- tune jumping and dashing, and major bug fixes
Important discoveries along the way:
- some people felt that the camera controls were inverted. we may add a settings menu to control the music volume and invert the camera
- the mechanics may not be "windy" enough. Need to rethink pick-up especially
- a lot happens as soon as the game starts, perhaps too much. Might need to separate the quests so they're not all triggered at the start
